ALBION ONLINE SUMMER ALPHA ROUND-UP

Albion Online’s summer alpha test came to a close on Monday the 13th of October, after almost a month of gathering, territory claiming, bug reports and hundreds of thousands of bunny rabbit deaths.
The team is already hard at work developing new features into the game ready for the next test (see our two new Facebook updates here), but we wanted to take the time to look back on what has been a truly amazing and successful Summer Alpha, with a great end event!

RANKINGS
The end of test event really shook up the rankings, with decked-out developers earning their killers more than their weight in fame, but a player who spent the majority of their time at the very top of the fame leader boards was Wirindi of Albion Online veterans Vendetta, who also came out on top across the board, and were one of the largest and best organised guilds in this test.
Top Guild Kill Value was distributed between Hammer and Sickle (1st place), Vendetta (2nd place), and Scoia’Tael (3rd place), with the same guilds taking the top 3 positions in guild fame, though this time Vendetta were top and Hammer and Sickle 2nd. To see why these guilds were at the top, just check out the videos below!
A special shout-out to Vikings, a guild originally for live streamers which eventually blossomed into a great guild of its own, and part of the Victrix Mortalis Alliance alongside Vendetta and Kill on Sight.

PLAYER-DRIVEN ECONOMY A SANDBOX GAME BROUGHT TO LIFE

1)THE ULTIMATE IN CRAFTING
To erect the greatest cities and smith the most deadly weapons requires resources, and plenty of them. Search far and wide to find the very rarest, most prized materials. But be on your guard - you won’t be the only one looking for them
2)CRAFT YOUR OWN ARMOR AND WEAPONS
A player forges their own destiny! Be it a mighty set of armor, a magic staff or a set of sturdy tools - all items are crafted by you in our player-driven economy, so take up position at the anvil and get smithing!
3)HAUL YOUR GOODS AROUND THE WORLD
There are many ways to transport goods across the vast world of Albion. So load up your trusty pack mule and set off on your way! Be warned, though, a full carriage is slow, and an easy target for thieves - be prepared to protect your cargo!
4)TRADE YOUR GOODS AT LOCAL MARKETPLACES
Have more resources and items than you know what to do with? Or are you looking for a particular kind of blade? Take yourself to the nearest marketplace – plenty of traders await you there, and you’re sure to find what you’re looking for!

THE MIDLANDS OF ALBION, 28TH OF SEPTEMBER

A community-led event this week saw players truly going back to their roots by returning to Tier 1 gear – the most basic set acquirable in Albion Online!

Weary from intense, strategic fighting and the pain of a hundred high-tier AoE spell animations burning into their corneas, Albion’s most respected vets threw aside their powerful armor and weapons – some of them days in the making – and stored them away in their now palatial player houses.
BCqWGPb
These battle-hardened warriors yearned for the simpler days of old. So long ago was it that these thin garbs were last worn, that one player had to call ahead to his parents’ house and get his dad to put his shirt through the wash because it was a bit musty and had weird stains on the underarms. But soon the uniforms of battle were prepared!
From Stormcaller of Vendetta, with accompanying blog
They came brandishing their primitive toy-like shields, guild emblems drawn clumsily on the wood, ostensibly by toddlers with marker pens. Their blunt swords that start to wobble a bit if you swing them around too much. Their outgrown leather armor with the aforementioned embarrassing stains.
Having grouped up, they headed out in a veritable tsunami of scantily-clad noobs – their destination: Dragonrock, the agreed site of the battle. With low-tier spells restricted to some heals and a burning DoT AoE, many in the group spent a large part of the journey on fire.
ss+(2014-09-30+at+06.40.47)
They tore through the center of Albion, zerging any poor player who happened to be wandering in their path. After a parade of what can only be described as public indecency, the company arrived at Dragonrock, the proposed site of their weird pointless battle.

Albion GVG FIGHTS – PREVIEW (17TH OCT)

As you know Guild vs Guild fights are an essential part of Albion Online, and this test it took the community just 3 days to claim a huge bunch of territories – and it didn’t take them much longer to get the first fights scheduled. Here is an overview of the fights happening today.

SCOIATEAL VS THE LORDS OF DEATH
Game 1 ST vs LOD
Lords of Death are a very experienced Darkfall guild who have been in Albion tests ever since. However, they’re up against the “Polish Power House” from the previous test, ScoiaTael. SociaTael was able to dominate in the last test and it became quickly clear that they were a top guild even back then. However, this time the main group of ScoiaTael only started on Day 2, which could give Lord of Death an advantage. But don’t forget that Nutshells (the acadamy of ScoiaTael) has been there from Day 1 and they may support them with resources and buildings. For me this is the most interesting match today.

INSANE VS THE LORDS OF DEATH
Game 2
However LoD is being attacked at the same time at two different territories. Maybe this was planned, maybe it was a mistake on LoD’s part. From previous test my impression was that LoD are very experienced, but do not have great numbers. Their Russian opponents, Insane, were enthusiastic players also in the last test, and I am quite certain that they will pose a similar threat to LoD as ScoiaTael will do. Perhaps this is even a more dangerous matchup. I do not see LoD winning both games. If they are smart they’ll choose one territory to assign their A-Team to during this match and give up the other fight without risking any valuable resources. Defender Points are still up to 3 so there will be enough time to defend that territory later on.

 FACEPUNCH VS UNHOLYMERCENARIES
Game 3
Facepunch is a guild from a very large community. They have a very ambitious leader in Sam but the rest of the team seems to fluctuate a little. I wasn’t able to see any other old faces from last test but that’s maybe just me. However, they identified a territory from a guild which broke up and probably won’t even show up to defend (I certainly haven’t seen any of them online for a while). So easy win for Facepunch here.

 VENDETTA VS FACEPUNCH
Game 4
And this win from above is necessarily needed if Vendetta are to get this territory from Facepunch. If you havent had heard it yet, Vendetta is the clear number one spot after the first days of the test. The experienced Darkfall guild, led by brothers Skytea and Teasky, is well organised and have the highest tier production buildings yet. Of course there is the strong Defender Bonus, but I doubt that it will save Facepunch. Everything else but a win for Vendetta would be a surprise to everyone.
 VENDETTA VS THE GENTLEMEN
Game 5
And that Vendetta scheduled a 2nd attack at the same time just shows nothing but their current confidence. The Gentlemen are newcomers in this thread and my guess would be that they maybe went a bit to far by claiming a territory in the red zone. They’ve just barely reached T3 while Vendetta is steering towards T5, and needless to say the latter have a huge knowledge advantage as well, having played in almost every test in 2013 and being there with the Albion team almost from the start. I just hope that The Gentlemen don’t lose their motivation. Small hint for The Gentlemen: why not hire some mercenaries from Hammer & Sickle. They are one of my secret tips amongst the Russian guilds.

ALBION ONLINE’S END OF SUMMER ALPHA EVENT!

As many of you know, after a lot of feedback from the community telling us you just didn’t want to leave Albion just yet, we’ve extended the end date of Albion Online’s alpha test to the 13th of October!
However, all good things must come to an end, and Sandbox Interactive’s devs are itching to get back to building in all the cool new features and make the game ready for our winter alpha!
To soften the blow we want everyone to come along to a a little event we’ll be putting on just to say a big thanks for your support, challenge your combat skills one last time, and end the test on a high note!
So we’d like to share with you a little something Bercilak got in the post a few days ago…
CRISIS IN BEARSFAST!
Citizens of Bearsfast, west of Lost Shore, have recently reported a major crisis, with a monster infestation which has left hundreds of people displaced from their homes, too frightened to return to gather their equipment and take up arms against the monsters themselves. The once-majestic castle as been overrun, and the area has had to be deserted.
Having kept their homeland quarantined for months, the citizens have sent out a plea to the heroes of Albion to muster the last of the strength for one last battle, to overcome evil and save the region – and indeed, perhaps, the world – from certain destruction.
Two brave warriors, Beelzebabb and Empa, have boldly volunteered themselves to lead the company to the very heart of Bearsfast and destroy this evil once and for all. Will you join them?
If you are bold enough, come to Lost Shore on the 13th of October at 17:00 CEST. Bring your best gear, all the strength of your heart, and maybe a spare pair of underpants.

EndTestEventPingFinal
Head over to the (currently locked) entrance to Bearsfast on Monday the 13th at 17:00 CEST
We (and the citizens of Bearsfast!) would love it if as many players as possible could join in. Testers who want to stream the action are also very welcome!
A massive thanks to everyone who has participated in testing so far – updates on a development roadmap for the next test will be out within two weeks of the end of the test!
